GETTING TO BRATISLAVA & AROUND
Most of you will arrive by plane at Vienna Airport (Schwechat), which effectively serves as a
domestic airport for much of western Slovakia. There are also some flights to Bratislava
Airport, primarily low-cost Ryanair flights. Here’s how you can get to Bratislava from:
Bratislava Airport:
By Car: Bratislava can be reached from the airport in 15–20 minutes. To get to the
city center, you can use Bolt or Uber. Don’t forget to download the app and register
in advance. You can also take a taxi, but be sure to ask about the price beforehand
or use the HOPIN mobile app.
By Bus: For a budget-friendly option, take bus no. 61 to the main train station. From
there, you can walk to the city center and your hotel in 15 minutes or take bus no. 93
(exit at Zochova). Bus tickets are available from ticket machines at bus stops or in
kiosks, and must be validated in the buses. The easiest option is to use the city
transport app "IDS BK" .
Vienna Airport - Schwechat:
The airport at Vienna-Schwechat is only 40 kilometers west of Bratislava and is a
major gateway for long-haul flights. Buses to Bratislava depart every 30 to 60
minutes. Tickets can be bought on the bus from companies such as slovaklines.sk,
regiojet.com, and flixbus.com. We personally recommend Slovak Lines for their
clean, modern buses and friendly, English-speaking drivers. The easiest way to buy a
ticket is through their app. You can also buy tickets directly from the driver with card
or cash. The closest stop to your hotel is Most SNP-Nový Most.
The bus stop is directly in front of the arrival area at Vienna Airport, usually at
platforms 4 or 5.
Bratislava Main Train Station:
If you arrive by train, you can walk to the city center and your hotel in 15-20 minutes
or take one of the buses stopping at Zochova (no. 93, 32, 39).
Bratislava Bus Station:
If you arrive by bus and get off at the main bus station, which also serves as a large
shopping mall, take bus no. 40 to the train station and then continue as described
above.
