JOSU WALIÑO PIZARRO
Josu holds a Bachelor's degree in Computer
Science from the University of the Basque
Country (UPV/EHU) and a Master's degree in
Project Management from Mondragon
University. He is currently the CEO of
PUNTUEUS, where he manages the .EUS
Top Level Domain to promote Basque
culture and language online. Additionally,
he serves as the Vice-chair of the GeoTLD
Group at ICANN, supporting geographic
and community TLDs, and is a member of
the Digital Environment working group
within the Advisory Council on the Basque
Language of the Basque Government.
With over 25 years of experience, his career
has been dedicated to advancing the
Basque language in the digital realm. He
has served as the Director of Projects and
Innovation and as an executive member at
the Elhuyar Foundation, where he
coordinated projects such as localizing
Microsoft Windows, Office, and Linux into
Basque, and developing Moblang, the first
Basque learning system for mobile phones.
He also founded Eleka Linguistic
Engineering, where he coordinated projects
including the development of OpenTrad, an
open-source machine translation system for
minority languages.
Josu has also served as the President of
Langune, the cluster of language industries
in the Basque Country, fostering
collaboration and growth within the sector.
